About St Cecilia Chorus

We tend to perform standard classical choral works in the autumn and spring concerts but lighter music in the summer. The best way to see what we do is to come to one of our concerts.

Our conductor James Dixon encourages us to work hard in rehearsals but have fun at the same time! As a trained countertenor, he coaches us in singing techniques to achieve the best sound.

As well as performing we enjoy social and fund-raising events, and an open Come and Sing Workshop every January. And every three years we make a concert tour; in June this year we visited Tuscany and performed concerts in Lucca,Florence and Viareggio.

We always welcome new singers. You don't need to have sung in a choir before or had any vocal training but you do need to be able to read music. No-one is asked to sing alone in rehearsals - you're always singing with your section.

After you've tried us for a few weeks, James will meet you to listen to you singing (in a small group if you prefer). He will check you're singing the part best suited to your voice and suggest some things you can work on to improve your sound.

Full choir members normally pay an annual subscription (which works out at about £3 per rehearsal and includes music hire) but all new members get their first term free. In addition, all full-time students and under-30s get free membership for up to three years. There are no extra hidden costs!

We rehearse on Thursdays from 7.45-9.45 at Banstead Community Junior School, The Horseshoe, SM7 2BQ  (there's plenty of free parking on the road)

You can join at any time between September and June, so why not try us out? Do contact Liz (membership secretary) on 07931 594548 or membership@stceciliachorus.org.uk so we can be sure to welcome you!
